Scientists worldwide are always seeking the most current knowledge and research finding but are frequently disappointed to discover the paper they are seeking is not available free of charge. The researcher then needs to divert precious funds to purchase the item, or obtain an equally expensive inter-library loan.<br />Frequently, the scientist may decide that simply reading the abstract is quicker, easier and cheaper and does not pursue the full article. The effect of this is poorly informed science and potentially wasted efforts in the laboratory.<br />I have started this blog as a discussion about the merits of using P2P (peer-to-peer) file sharing as a mechanism of distributing scientific information.<br />This is already happening with the most popular journals, Nature and Science, with numerous issues available to download via bit-torrent files. However the list of issues available is not complete and no central information resource exists to list the available issues.<br />Other less popular journals such as Nature Structural Molecular Biology are also abailabe, but again very few issues are available.<br /><br />I am interested in hearing the opinion of others in this matter, and that is the reason for this blog.
